Alex de Rementeria

Alex is a Specialist Psychoanalytic Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist trained to work therapeutically with babies, children and young people up to 25.

She works collaboratively with families to make sense of the difficulties they are experiencing. She does not imagine herself to have ‘the answers’ but draws on her compassionate curiosity to discover them together with her patients and their parents. She finds warmth and humour are important in making it feel safe to explore difficult feelings and recognises that, still, it takes courage to do this.

Alex has over twenty years’ experience working with children and young people including working in an NHS Neurodisability service, a parent-infant psychotherapy clinic and generic Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. She has also been Lead Therapist in two primary schools and offers clinical supervision to colleagues working privately and in the NHS. She currently works at the Tavistock, both clinically and as a lecturer and tutor. She is Editor in Chief of the Journal of Child Psychotherapy and co-authored, with Dilys Daws, Finding Your Way with Your Baby – a British Medical Association Award winning book for parents and professional about the baby’s first year.

Alex is skilled and experienced in working with depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, behavioural difficulties and relational difficulties.

Professional Doctorate in Psych. Psych, Masters in Psychoanalytic Observational Studies (distinction), Post Graduate Certificate in Education, BSc Psychology Degree, BA Hons English Literature Degree, full member of the Association of Child Psychotherapists.
