Emily Backhouse

Emily is a motivated and compassionate integrative child and adolescent psychotherapist. Using a client centered, relational approach to work alongside children and young people who are experiencing difficulties, particularly those who might find it hard to engage, Emily works at their pace, creating a safe, authentic and supportive space in which to build a relationship and explore their inner worlds with care and respect. Integrative training helps with working flexibly, using the approach best suited to the child or young person. Emily is holistically minded and values the system around the child in her work, such as family, carers, social workers, school etc..

Emily is a former youth worker with over eight years’ experience working in multidisciplinary teams with children and adolescents who have complex needs such as behaviour management, neglect, physical and domestic abuse, sexual abuse and exploitation, anger, anxiety, disordered eating, depression, suicidal ideation and disengagement from family, education and society. Having worked in community, charity and education settings, Emily has experience of taking children, young people and families through the assessment process in a culturally sensitive and inclusive way, leading to working together on a deeper emotional level.

Emily has received a certificate of higher education in Counselling and Counselling Skills from Birkbeck, University of London and her master’s degree in Integrative Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy from Terapia, Middlesex University.
