Gerry McGarron

Gerry is a Cognitive-Behaviour (CBT) Therapist with over 20 years’ experience. He is accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP), the lead body for CBT in the UK. He works in primary and secondary care settings in the NHS and in private practice as a therapist, supervisor and trainer. He specialises in the brief treatment of clinical depression and anxiety disorders including generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. His practice is guided by the most up-to-date and empirically-supported approaches in CBT.

In his career Gerry has worked for The Priory Hospitals Group where he established a CBT day care programme, he has been head of CBT training and supervision for medical registrars training in psychotherapy at the Tavistock Clinic and course director for IAPT training courses in a partnership between Barnet, Haringey and Enfield NHS Mental Health Trust and Reading University. Apart from his current NHS work he also runs a successful CBT training course at WPF Therapy.


Gerry completed a three-year MSc in Counselling at Goldsmiths College, University of London, a Postgraduate Certificate in Cognitive Therapy from the Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre and an MSc in Advanced Cognitive Therapy: Training and Dissemination from Kellogg College, University of Oxford. He has attended several additional training events with leaders in the field in Europe and North America.
