Marina Bonfatto

Marina is a Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist who trained at the Tavistock Clinic in London. She has worked clinically with children, young people and families for over 15 years and she is currently Principal Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist in a highly specialist national unit based at the Tavistock Clinic where she leads a multidisciplinary team.

Marina has extensive experience of therapeutic work with children and young people presenting with a wide range of mental health difficulties such as depression, low mood, anxiety, self-harm, eating disorders, trauma, neurodevelopmental needs and distress related to gender issues. She has provided individual psychotherapy, consultation, supervision and training in a variety of clinical settings as well as in community settings and in primary and secondary schools.

Marina’s compassionate, engaging and nurturing approach has helped a wide range of children, young people and their families through times of distress, hopelessness and upheaval. She has a deep commitment to create a collaborative ‘thinking together’ therapeutic relationship where young people can safely engage in the exploration of their difficulties and distress, and achieve a better understanding of themselves in relation to others. At the core of her practice there is a belief in the importance of sustaining hope, nurturing potential and building on resilience.

Alongside her clinical work, Marina is long standing Visiting Lecturer and Clinical Supervisor at the Tavistock Clinic where she has thought on a range of clinical trainings. She is currently a supervisor and tutor on the Professional Doctorate in Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and she is overseeing the development and delivery of CPD trainings related to working with gender non-conforming young people.
