Novelette Newell

Novelette is a Psychoanalytic Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist working in private practice and in child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) in the NHS. She has worked with infants, children, adolescents and families for over 10 years.

Novelette completed the doctoral training in child and adolescent psychotherapy at the Tavistock/ University of East London. This included a four year placement within a specialist fostering and adoption service at SLAM (South London and Maudsley NHS Trust), where she provided short and long term psychotherapy and parent work. This extended her interested in working with children with complex needs or those who have suffered trauma or loss. At SLAM, she delivered a therapeutic support service for parents with babies on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Kings College London. This formative experience continues to contribute to her compassionate and understanding approach when offering parent work.

Novelette is dedicated to working with children, adolescents and families to provide a thoughtful and therapeutic space, whether this is through individual, parent-child work or parent/carer work.

Novelette has specialist experience and interest in working with children with neurodevelopmental needs and children with disabilities. She has training in and carries out neurodevelopmental assessments for Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) within the NHS. She currently offers psychotherapeutic clinical services within a secondary mainstream and two special needs schools.

Novelette has undertaken research in the fields of: Depression and anxiety; Schizophrenia; children with Conduct disorders. She is currently completing doctoral research into: ‘Secondary Trauma of CAMHS Practitioners and Social Workers in a Looked After Children Setting’.
